“Our life is what our thoughts make it.”
I have included a selection of my favourite quotes by Marcus Aurelius from his Meditations.
These snippets of wisdom were relevant in his lifetime almost two thousand years ago (26 April 121-17 March 180) and even more so now, when we need to consider what is really important in our lives. Have a read and “meditate” 🙂 on them.
How much do we let external factors influence our happiness? How much responsibility to we take for our own thoughts?
“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”
“Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.”
“When you arise in the morning think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love.”
“If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it.”
“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”
“Do not indulge in dreams of having what you have not, but reckon up the chief of the blessings you do possess, and then thankfully remember how you would crave for them if they were not yours.”
“You always own the option of having no opinion. There is never any need to get worked up or to trouble your soul about things you can’t control. These things are not asking to be judged by you. Leave them alone.”
“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.”
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you leave a little happier and more at peace with the world than you started. Let me now your thoughts below!
